Kitchen Lighting

Our kitchen lighting is led by Mullan's retro pendants and wall lights – holophane glass, enamel, copper and antique brass – for kitchen islands, tables and walls, with Estro cordless lamps for the kitchen table.

Kitchens need bright light for cooking and softer light for eating. Hang pendants in pairs or threes over an island, add wall lights on a separate circuit for evenings, and use a cordless lamp on the table at suppertime.

Key facts

  • Main maker: Mullan; also Estro and Baulmann
  • Pendants including Alma, Rio, Beirut and Corvera holophane

  • Cordless table lamps for kitchen tables

Frequently asked questions

How many pendants should go over a kitchen island?

Two for an island up to about 2m long, three for longer islands, spaced evenly with about 60–75cm between centres.

How high should kitchen pendants hang?

About 75–90cm above the worktop, high enough not to obstruct the view or catch the head.

Are retro pendants practical in a kitchen?

Yes. Glass and metal shades are easy to wipe clean, and prismatic glass spreads light evenly over the worktop.
