The Bridge 1963 by John Aldridge
John Arthur Malcolm Aldridge was a British oil painter, draftsman, wallpaper designer and art teacher. He was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1954 and a Royal Academician in 1963. After graduating from Oxford University, he settled in London and taught himself to paint, holding his first exhibition in 1931. He taught at the Slade School for Fine Arts of University College London and in 1933 moved to Great Bardfield in Essex where he frequently opened his house Place House for summer exhibitions. His subjects were the Essex countryside, his garden at Place House and scenes from his travels to Italy and Mallorca.
