Rue de Marceau by Ann Gower
In 1955, aged 20, Anne Surie went to Paris to work as an au pair. Her first job was with Christian Dior and she was given days off to study French. However, she preferred to spend her days exploring Paris and sketching. The families she worked for included her in their trips to the city and their country chateaux and included her in all their social events - dinners, dances, theatre, opera, fashion shows. On returning to England, she put away her paints and brushes and con concentrated on raising a family. In 2016, at the age of 81, she was clearing out her house and found a long forgotten portfolio of work with sketches of the happy times she had in France.
