Roofs Under Snow 1878 by Gustave Caillebotte
Gustave Caillebotte was a French painter who was a member and patron of the Impressionists. He was also interested in photography as an art form. His well to do family had a house in Yerres, 12miles south of Paris as well as their Paris home and it was there that he began to draw and paint. He painted many domestic and familial scenes depicting members of his family, interiors and portraits. Best known for his paintings of urban Paris, he also painted still lifes, focussing primarily on the food - either on the table in preparation for eating or waiting to be purchased.
