Fred Cuming RA (1930–2022) was a celebrated British landscape painter, renowned for his atmospheric depictions of the British coastline and countryside. Born in London, he studied at the Sidcup School of Art and the Royal College of Art, where he cultivated a lifelong fascination with light and mood. Cuming’s work blends realism and impressionism, capturing fleeting skies, tranquil seas, and quiet landscapes with a subtle, luminous palette. Elected a Royal Academician in 1974, he was one of the youngest ever to receive that honour. His work continues to be admired for its poetic and dreamlike quality.
