Autumn Sunshine 1884 by Edward Arthur Walton
Edward Arthur Walton was a Scottish artist of landscapes and portraits and did his art training at the Kunstakademie in Dusseldorf and the Glasgow School of Art. He became part of the Glasgow School or Glasgow Boys who were great admirers of Whistler. Walton’s watercolours of the Helensburgh area were regarded as some of the finest of the Glasgow School and were praised for their clarity, colour and decorative sense. Portrait commissions then became a main source of income for Walton. He was an associate of the Royal Scottish Academy before becoming a full member in 1905. He was President of the Royal Scottish Water Colour Society from 1915, his use of oil being reserved largely for Whistler style portraits.
